Dream On. Chapter 11: The center of the city.

Previously...

The center of the city

It was the first time the guys went to the center of the city. Their main reasons for not going were that they had been too busy and that it was far away, so actually it all came down to laziness. Albert knew that the city had a long and troubled history and had tried to convince his friend to visit it repeatedly, but in the end, they always found something else to do. Seeing it for the first time, he regretted not having insisted more.
Dalia had taken them to the old quarter inside the walls, with its twisty narrow stone streets, and the old red-brick houses. Then up the hill to the castle where they could see the whole city on both sides of the river. She was an excellent tourist guide, taking them to the most hidden spots and the most beautiful views, it was surprising to know that she had been in the city for only a bit longer that they had been. The tour ended at the cathedral’s square.
The temple was an enormous gothic building that loomed over all the surrounding constructions. It was grey and spiky, and even a bit scary after the sunset with its towers piercing the sky above. The square in front was made up of grey and black stone, radiating in beams from the center where there was a statue of a forgotten queen. As strange as it might seem, no one actually knew who was she supposed to be and the statue’s factions had been worn out so badly that it didn’t have a face anymore, it remained a mystery for everyone, but no one had ever considered taking it down.
The bar, they went to, was on the left side of the cathedral, just in front of the statue. It wasn’t too big, and it was full of people, but they still managed to find a small table on a corner where they could squeeze in. They ordered three beers, and listened to the girl who was playing the guitar half hidden behind a column, she should have been a regular at the bar because lots of people clapped and cheered when she finished.
- So, Albert, what have you been up to lately? I haven’t seen you much.- asked Dalia.
-I’ve been busy, too much work you know? I’m really looking forward the Christmas holidays… What about you?
-Not bad, Robert has been helping me a lot understand some of the harder things they teach us.
-Hmmm, that would explain why he’s been avoiding me lately.- Albert joked.
-Don’t be stupid.- Robert said whilst punching him on the arm. –Look here come the beers!
-Ok, let’s cheer… for Christmas holidays that are only two weeks away!- said Albert.
-For Christmas!- replied his friends, and then they all took a sip.
-Hi, guys!- a voice said from behind Albert making him choke on his beer. Snorting it out of his nose, he spun around.
