A Story A Day. Story 340 of 365: Best (Part X).

After lunch, Leo decided it was time to go somewhere else. They jumped on a bus and rode to the outskirts of the city. There was a big park in there, and he told Ismene that first it was a private park for the wealthy, then it became a zoo, and after that it was converted to a public park. It was a bit far from the city center, so only people who wanted to go there went. Its grass covered slopes were sprinkled with people laying on the sun, either reading or doing nothing at all. There were flower beds everywhere, and twisting stone paths that met at random points only to diverge again. It had a wild air that was pleasant to the eye.

-This is truly beautiful, Leo. I'm glad you took me.

-Are you in for a little hike?- he asked, avoiding replying to the compliment.

He led the way uphill, it was a nice walk. As they walked there was less and less people, until they were on top of the hill. Leo made her look around, from there they could see the whole city, and the neighbouring lands and towns, and on the other side, far away across the fields, the ocean. Ismene shed a tear when she saw it, the sea, she missed it so much. And suddenly she was shaking and crying as if the world was going to end. Leo hugged her, trying to calm her down, not even knowing why she was crying. He made her sit on the floor until she was calm enough. He sat by her side, comforting her, letting her cry on his shoulder. When she stopped crying she found him staring at her.

-Are you feeling better? Do you want to talk about it?

She nodded, wiping the remaining tears from her eyes.

-It's just that I'm alone here, everyone I love, everyone I know is on the other side of the world.

-Shhh, you're not alone.- Leo petted her head softly.

Ismene had an impulse, and facing him, she kissed him in the lips. It was soft and tender, a thank-you kiss of a sort. He corresponded, but didn't comment, he simply stood up and held his hand to help her.

-I know what's going to make you feel better. Let's go.

As Ismene tasted the chocolate gelato, she did feel better indeed. She had know going away would be hard, but she hadn't expected it to be so hard. She would need to be strong and rely on the people around her, the question whether Leo was one of those she could rely on still bugged her. He had been so nice throughout the day, but she had been warned he was a dick. What should she trust, her heart or her brain? The chocolate soon melted away her doubts, and Leo still had more plans for her.

-Okay young lady, there's still one more thing you need to do today. It's something really silly and cliche. But,... We're going bowling! And don't believe I'm going to let you win.

-As if you could!

Ismene wasn't half bad, but Leo was clearly better. They teased each other for the length of the game, and continued to do after it, at one point it was all a game of double meanings and veiled suggestions. However, the day came to an end, and so had to do the date. And both had other things in mind.

-Your house or mine?- bursted Ismene saying what they both were thinking.

-As you wish.- there was urgency in his voice.

-Whatever is closer.

-Mine, probably.

As they fell entangled in bed, all her doubts had vanished. Ismene didn't care anymore what his past was or what was he liked, she just wanted him. And for the lust she saw in his green eyes as he undressed her, he wanted her too. At that moment she thought of what Eirian would say when she explained her everything, and she almost started laughing. His kisses on her skin, made her forget about the outside world. Damn, he was good!

When Ismene was able to catch her breathe it was close to midnight. She slipped out of bed while Leo stared lazily at her. She went to the bathroom, still naked, and as she returned to the room, she picked up her clothes and laid them out on the bed.

-What are you doing?- he asked her.

-Leaving, I just can't sleep if there's someone else in the bed. Don't take it personally.

-Are you serious?

She sat on the bed, crosslegged, and stared right at him.

-Listen Leo, today has been amazing, and I'd like very much to repeat all of it. But this is something that happens to me, for me sleeping is deeply personal, and I'm not ready to fall asleep on the same bed as you.

-But we just had sex, what's more personal than that?

-It doesn't make sense, and I know. But it's part of me. You either take it or leave it, I just want to make sure you are not going to think I do this because I don't care about you, or because it meant nothing.

-I'll do my best.

-Good.

She finished clothing and kissed him goodbye after assuring him that he didn't need to go with her, and that she would be okay.
