Dream On. Chapter 77: Against the clock.

Previously...

Against the clock

Albert found his friends waiting for him at the station, they were still dressed the same way as the night before. He greeted them, and up close, he saw that it was clear they hadn’t got any sleep during the night.

-We went to the police after you called, I know they are worth nothing in this, but maybe they would…- explained Robert.

-If it made you feel better, then it was good.- Albert acknowledged.

They got on the bus together, but they rode in silence, feeling Myriam’s absence as a heavy stone on their hearts. When they arrived at the boys’ room Myriam stuff was still neatly organized, as she had left it the night before. Albert took her pajamas from his bed and smelled her scent. He felt on the verge of crying, but he had to keep himself together for his friends, and he also felt as if he had run out of tears after all that had happened to him. He sat down facing them.

-Ok, we need to start looking for her now.- and then he explained to them what his grandmother had told him.

-Wait… what? You can do the same Marla does?- Robert interrupted.

-Apparently, yes.

-So, we have an advantage in here.- replied Octavia.

-How?- inquired Dalia.

-Well, we know Albert can do it, but Marla doesn’t, so she won’t be expecting him to be able to do anything, and that will be her weakness.- continued the other girl.

-You are forgetting a little detail here, I still don’t know if I will be able to do it.- added Albert gloomily.

-Come on, man! Of course, you will!- Robert cheered him.

-We won’t know until I try, and we better get moving. I think that we should go check Marla’s place, maybe she left something behind after I almost burnt it down. I don’t think she will be there, though.

-You did what?- started Robert unbelievingly.

-I’ll tell you on our way there.- replied Albert nonchalantly.

They took a different bus and arrived at Marla’s almost an hour later. Albert profited that time to explain them about the two messages he had delivered.

-No doubt Marla was furious, then. You seriously tattooed her with that?- joked Robert.

-Shh, Robert, this is more serious than you imagine.- hushed Octavia.- According to one book my parents sent me, this is really advanced, I don’t think you should have any problem to manipulate reality in any way you wanted, whenever you wanted.

-Your parents sent you another book?- asked Dalia.

-Yes, two weeks ago, but you know, then everything happened… and I completely forgot about it.- Octavia apologized.

-I wish we had it now…- Albert said longingly.

-I can go for it if you want.

-No, we don’t have time, we need to find any clue there is, as soon as possible.

When they arrived, they met with their first challenge, no one had thought about which excuse they would give the doorman for their visit, and he stopped them when they tried to sneak through.

-Excuse me, where are you going?

-Hmmm, we are going to visit Marla… Walters.- said Albert, remembering Marla’s surname just in time.

-Miss Walters is not here right now. You cannot pass, I’m afraid.

Albert saw it was time to try his powers for the first time. He focused on the doorman, and had the same feeling he had when he fell on one of his dreams, however, he was fully awake. It amazed him. He approached the doorman and read his badge.

-Listen, Alfred, we are going to pass, and you are going to let us pass, regardless Miss Walters is at home or not. Understood?

The doorman stared at him blankly and nodded.

-Also, you are going to forget anything in relation to us, you have never seen us, we have never been here.- Albert’s voice was cold as ice as he walked determinately towards the elevator.
