Dream On. Chapter 19: A secret meeting.

Previously...

A secret meeting

Dalia finally got to her dorm, it had taken her lots of effort to convince Robert that no, she didn't need help packing and that yes, she was sure about it. Only after she told him that he could go with her to the station did he continue his way. She was exhausted, and late.
As she opened her bedroom door she could smell the aroma of Marla's cigarettes, she was smoking looking through the window.
-Do you know you can't smoke in here?- Dalia told her.
-You're late.- she replied paying no heed to what her friend just told her.
-I know, it's not my fault, Robert just wouldn't let me go.
-You should fuck him already.
-Don't be so harsh! He's a really nice guy, and he deserves better than me.
-Well, whatever, I didn't come to talk about this.- Marla said impatiently.- Have you made any progress while I was not here?
-Not much, Albert spends so much time with Myriam that I never see him alone...
-We'll need to take more drastic measures after Christmas... do you think you'll be able to slip something in his coffee?
-What are you thinking about?- replied Dalia a bit scared.
-I still need to finish planning the details, don't worry I'm not going to kill him, I'll just help him wake up something that he's not aware he has inside him.
She finished her cigarette and threw the end through the window landing on the snow.
-I hate this weather...- she said gloomily.
-By the way, how was your trip? I thought it would only take you a week...- inquired Dalia.
-Well, dear, this is none of your business.- and like that she left the room.
Dalia had to force herself to remember that she was doing this because she owed Marla. If it hadn't been for her intervention she would have probably never been able to study at the university. They met when they were in the selection process, Dalia a poor girl from the countryside who was hoping that her grant would be enough to pay for the tuition, Marla an extremely rich city girl who told her that she would pay university for her if she agreed to help her with some affairs. It had been strange from the start, but she was desperate to study at the university so she agreed.
But now she was regretting it, she should have accepted her fate and go back to her town to work in the bakery. Nothing was worth betraying the people who had accepted her so warmly, not even fulfilling her dream. If Marla wasn't such a dangerous person she would betray her, but inside her perfect appearance, she was a monster, a red-headed monster that would destroy anything to accomplish her objective. Darla didn't know what would happen if she failed her, but she suspected that it wouldn't be good for anyone she did care of.
She resigned to the fate she had herself chosen and started packing. At least during the holidays, she wouldn't have to play false.
