A Story A Day. Story 32 of 365: Children.

Children were cruel, and that was the reason why Alisha was too scared to go to school. For her, school was hours of suffering, she had fun learning, and she was good at it too, but her classmates seemed to hate her with all their hearts. She was innocent, which made her vulnerable, and extremely clever, which made her a target for their envy.

For the last month, Alisha, had been faking all kind of sickness, sometimes she could pull it off and her mother would allow her to stay at home. Other days her mother would ask her if something was wrong, and Alisha would deny it, too scared to even tell her mom about the constant psychological abuse she was suffering.

The other children were clever, they always acted nice in front of the adults, they never seemed to do anything wrong. Yet, as soon as the teachers turned their backs, the verbal abuse against Alisha would start. There was this girl, Victoria, who was particularly vicious, Alisha did even tell a teacher about her, but he didn't believe her. Victoria was far too sweet and pretty to say the horrible things Alisha was claiming she had, he told Alisha off for telling lies and she learnt a lesson: never trust an adult.
