Dream On. Chapter 58: A piece of history.

A piece of history

His friends literally dragged him into a taxi as soon as he finished changing. He wondered why they were so eager, but maybe it was only him who was mentally slow after all the stress from the exams. The taxi left them at the old city gates as the cars were not allowed past the city walls, mainly because the streets were too narrow. Myriam led the way through some crooked streets avoiding, maybe on purpose, to pass through the cathedral’s square. They followed up the hill as the restaurant happened to be next to the castle. Taking into account the memories that the way up arose in Albert, it was strange that he loved the restaurant so much, but he did.
Their table was in a private room full of medieval relics. Albert used to say that you could spend one term studying all the different treasures that the restaurant hid, if not more. He was surprised that his friends had also ordered the food when they had made the reservation, but he couldn't complain as everything was delicious.
-So, what are we celebrating?- he asked them.
-That you finally finished your exams! Isn't that an enough good reason?- replied Myriam winking one eye. She was wearing the necklace he had given her with a dress a shade darker than the stone.
-I think there's something more...
-Let's toast!- Robert interrupted- To Mister Suspicious! Let him remain this way!
Albert smiled and gave up, they wouldn't tell him so he would rather enjoy the evening. Even if they had been living together between the four walls of the boys' bedroom for close than three weeks, they had lots of things to talk about. The evening passed fast as the dishes were brought in, Albert thought that if it weren't because he was always hungry he would have exploded for the amount of food. After the dessert, he insisted again.
-Will you tell me what you've found or not?
-You'll have to wait a little more, don't you really want to go for a walk?- Myriam proposed.
-Where are you taking me?- he asked dubiously.
-It's a surprise.-answered her taking him by the arm.
They walked slowly around the cobbled streets, everyone seemed to have decided to get out in the city, and the streets were full of couples getting in and out of the bars and restaurants. In some of the small squares, there were even some tables set by surrounding restaurants so their customers could enjoy the first summer warmth. Albert loved that, even if he had gone thousands of times around the old streets, there were still places he didn't know and discoveries to make. However, the place where they ended up was a quite known place for all of them.
The street they had been walking through went to die on the cathedral’s square, just in front of the queen's statue, so they could actually see the back of the statue and the front of the cathedral as some kind of dramatic composition. Myriam led him to the statue.
-Here you are.- she announced.
Albert looked at her without understanding anything. Everyone had seen that statue at least one hundred times, it had been there since before they were born and would probably still be there when they were dead.
-What?
-Oh, well!- she said exasperatedly as Dalia and Robert looked at him amused.-Read the inscription.
-How do you want me to read the inscription if there is clearly not enough light?- he replied angrily, wondering why they were making him lose so much time to tell him whatever it was.
-I think his brain is completely baked.- Robert pointed out.- Don't you have a mobile phone?
Albert fumbled through his pockets until he found it, he activated the lantern function and got himself close to the pedestal were the inscription was.
