Dream On. Chapter 59: The Creator.

Previously...

The Creator

“In the honor of the Creator, from the created. The Dreamers will always be in debt.” The letters were faint, washed away by the centuries, but they were there. So that was the Creator, it was odd how something that was so in plain sight could go unnoticed. He would have never thought of looking at it, reflected Albert.
-How did you find out?
-Well, we were going to the cathedral, as we had planned, when we passed by it and Myriam insisted on stopping.- said Robert.
-She was really insistent, she said that she had felt that there could be something in here.- added Dalia.- And she was right.
-So, instead of going to the cathedral we went back to the library where they have the historic register and looked up for information on the statue. There was not much, but we got a name: Livia.
Albert looked up at the statue trying to make something out of the faceless statue, trying to see if he could recognize the woman Mayra had shown him. Maybe if he squinted his eyes and tilted his head at the right angle. But no, it was useless, the factions were too worn out, it could have been anyone. He wondered how long had the statue been there, and who did actually put it on. If she was so important for the Dreamers why there was no mention of her in the book? And, how come no one ever researched about her, when she was in such a central place in the city? However, the fact that the Creator had a statue just in front of the cathedral reinforced the idea that there could be some kind of link between her and the priests in there, it could well be that the Priest was part of the cathedral community.
-Did you discover anything else?- he asked with his stare stuck on the statue.
-We are planning on continuing the research at the campus library, apparently, it has a larger collection on the city history than the historic archives. Which, if you ask me, renders the city’s library redundant and almost unusable.- stated Robert.
-And also makes you very happy, because you’ll have more time to talk with your Jessica.- added Dalia.
Myriam rolled her eyes making Albert laugh.
-We found another thing.- Myriam said interrupting their friends discussion.- We have a list of possible directions of Marla’s father. If we had his name it would be much easier, but, unfortunately, there is no way we can access Marla’s birth certificate.
-I could. I just need to know how to get inside the civil register and go there in my dreams.
-Wouldn’t it be easier just asking Marla what is her father’s name?- pointed out Dalia.
-Well, we are not exactly in her good books, are we? She is really eager to have any excuse to hurt us, so I’d rather don’t do it.- reckoned Robert.
-I’ll get there as soon as we know where it is. We could come check it tomorrow, we could also go visit the cathedral, as tourists, to see if there’s something strange. I’d rather leave Dalia’s secret entrance for when we actually know what is going on.
They all turned around to check the huge building that dominated the square, now that they knew that there was probably something going on in there, it transmitted a menacing feeling.
-Let’s go somewhere else, there is something unsettling in here.- told them, Albert, saying out loud what they all thought.
They ended up going to a bar Myriam knew, and where she played occasionally, where they got moderately drunk and celebrated the end of the exams. At some point of the night, someone handed Myriam a guitar and convinced her to sing.
-You’re singing with me.- she said to Albert with the guitar in hand.
-What? No!
-Come on! We want to hear you sing, you’re gonna do well, you’ll see.- encouraged him Robert.
-Ok, I’ll do it.- he was drunk enough to forget about all the other people in the bar.
He got on the stage with Myriam and they sang a couple of songs they had been practicing. He had to admit that it wasn’t so terrible and that, in fact, he did enjoy himself quite a lot. He smiled to Myriam before getting off stage, it had been a bonding experience. They headed to the bar where the bartender invited them to a beer. Several people approached Myriam to ask her whether she was forming a band, and she introduced them to Albert as fellow amateur musicians. Some of them even tried to convince Albert to sing more often, but he wasn’t confident enough to do so. After a while, they left them alone again.
-You know? They are right, we should do this more often, I really enjoyed it.- confessed Myriam.
-I’m not sure I can do it without getting drunk first.- he joked.- Should we go back to our table?
-I think we rather not. Be discreet, turn around and look at it.
He did so and saw that Dalia and Robert were talking looking one at the other as if the outside world didn’t exist. He looked back at Myriam.
-So what’s their deal?- he asked.
-It’s clear that they like each other, and they know it, but they just keep playing around without doing anything. Oh, I didn’t tell you, but I found her trying to sneak out of the university one day, she told me that she couldn’t stand the pressure, but I could convince her to stay, one of the things I told her was that Robert would die without her.- Albert made a face at that.- Okay, maybe those weren’t my exact words, but the idea behind them was that one. You know it’s true, he loves her. And I think she kind of stayed for him.
-Then, why would she tell him that she wasn’t good enough for him?
-She did that? Well, we can be a bit complicated sometimes,…- said Myriam cryptically, then stood up.-Wait here.
He saw her walking up to the table and talk to their friends, she came back immediately with her purse.

-We are leaving.- she announced.
